Frodo classified dull things into three catagories of dullness (the classifying of dullness somehow relieved dullness). At one extreme were things only slightly dull, things on the brink of interestingness. At the other extreme were things so dull they were fascinating—like Iowa or paper clips. In the middle were the most irredeemably dull things of all, “middle-dull.”

From a book by Peter Kreef with the middle-dull title, Heaven: the Heart’s Deepest Longing. It was the only Kreeft the Newport library had on-shelf.
