First: Winamp Does Not Rock. Two reasons: skins and multi-user unfriendliness. First, skins are almost universally hard to see, unintuitive, and non-standard. Second, winamp—a high-profile, widely used application with a long history and large community—still does not play nice in a multi-user environment. Settings made by non-administrators are lost every time the app is closed, and these normal users also have no access to Winamps media library capabilities. The manual work-around involves setting file permissions a certain way. My solution: foobar2000.
Second: I found a dirt cheap and moderately portable password storage solution—Password Safe. I can use the my camera’s memory cards in conjuction with the USB reader I already have, along with Password Safe. Sure, it’s a window’s program, but it (a) doesn’t require an install and (b) has a linux command line appliction that reads the data files.
Third: bitch session. Why does my desktop flash to black for a just-noticably-long-enough moment after logon? Why do my quick launch icons turn blank? Why do all my windows get shifted to the right by an amount equal to the wide of the taskbar (which I keep on the left side of the screen) every time I come back from switching to another account. Why can only Administrator accounts double-click on the Time to get a calender view?

So what is all this b*tching about? It is Windows! What do you expect? The main function of Window is to piss you off and creat jobs for people that does not want to take the fustration so they hire other people to deal with it. — Yin Nov 23, 12:35 PM #
