Re: open door policy · Nov 29, 02:09 PM

Part of an email from my dad in Jacksonville, FL:

Anne, Laura and I had an interesting moment late Saturday evening while Anne and Laura were decorating the tree (I was inspecting their work). I won’t describe the sound, but rather what made the sound. A single kick on our front door was enough to splinter the wood holding the regular lock plus the dead bolt, along with the trim around the door. The splintered wood, several screws and of course the door (still on its hinges) all “exploded” into the front room, to a great noise. Several possibilities go through the mind: some Christmas decoration boxes fell, induced by the cats (no, both cats are in the family room with us, and the boxes are now empty); a car crashed into the front door (no, the door is recessed, and a car would have taken out the entire front wall), and someone is breaking in with evil intent. That last item was the only possibiliity not ruled out in about 1.06 seconds, so I proceeded cautiously to the scene. I didn’t see anyone, but did hear a car speed away.

Hrm…
