Accoring to this guy, I can look foward to reading Karl Marx loves children very much and The Wonderful Day China got the Bomb as I reach stage two in the process of learning to read Chinese. Also, and on my own accord, I expect further deterioration of my English. Mulgh! Brawp! Mggr.

  1. I’m living and studying in China right now and I can assure you that the only way you’ll read 马克æ€?é?žå¸¸çˆ±å©å? is if you choose to (I have, but just because people said I should). Modern mainland Chinese children’s material is more along the lines of what we’re used to—the first non-trivial thing I read was a story about an ant trying to cross a small river and a squirrel providing him a banana with which to make a boat (and the book was totally illustrated).

I’m stuck somewhere between stages 3 and 4 as it is. I wish you luck in your studies (and if you ever want an e-mail partner I’d be all for it… I need to practice my writing skills more). John B    Dec 8, 05:33 AM    #

  2. Thanks! I’ll probably take you up on that offer once my vocabulary reaches a couple hundred characters. I’m at just about 75 right now, working my way towards Lady in the Painting, which uses ~300 characters. Tom    Dec 8, 07:34 PM    #
