The Newport Public Library serves a town of 50,000; anytime I want something odd like, let’s say, the director’s cut of Das Boot—or any cut, who are we kidding—it’s got to be retrieved from Providence, and that takes paperwork, and that takes time. I’ve got my summer viewing all planned out, and will be working the paperwork for fall in May, because I know what’s good for me. If they have the DVD, that is. I lack the techology to play VHS files.

Gosh, am I ever tempted to join Netflix.

  1. Seriously, sign up for netflix or blockbuster. Blockbuster is a bit cheaper ($15/mo) and gives you two coupons for free movie/game rentals at a B&M store. Totally worth it if you watch more than ~6 movies a month…unbeatable selections, quick response, low hassle with returns. JFu    Apr 1, 01:08 AM    #

  2. The selection and availability on DVD is what would drive me. All the local video stores—except the Anime comic shop I’ve avoided—stick to top 40’s Clear Channel stuff. Tom    Apr 1, 08:23 AM    #

  3. any particular reason to avoid the anime shop? other than their amazing selection of hentai, of course. Dave    Apr 3, 12:21 AM    #

  4. I’ve aready seen hours and hours of anime; another hour or two will yield a smaller marginal benefit than an hour spent watching, for example, a seminal black and white silent film. Tom    Apr 3, 09:32 AM    #
