Gray Lady Down · May 17, 11:54 PM

This movie depicts the rescue of a nuclear submarine crew from the ocean floor near New London, CT. It features Charleton Heston, Christopher Reeve, David Carradine, and the Navy’s dazzling DSRV. Too fast past for character development, lacking a motivated plot, featuring only a few memorably-shot scenes, this movie does feature the Navy’s high-tech DSRV. Hell, it’s a propaganda flick showcasing undersea technology of the future and the Navy’s efficient hierarchical command structure, which is populated with smart, dedicated, caring-but-not-crying men. Plus, David Carradine gets to die heroically.

Directed: David Greene, 1978.
Summary: David Carradine and The Navy’s Incredible DSRV save the day.

  1. I (barely) remember this when it came out. At the time I was a mid-level enlisted person in the surface navy. I remember watching the film and having one of my earlier revelations of how Hollywoodisation of reality happens. Mark Lawrence    Jun 12, 04:21 PM    #
