The Newport Sunset Music Festival started on Monday and runs all week. Snapple is the big sponsor. Dionne Warwick played tonight to a crowd of several thousand under a big tent on the parking asphalt where a ice-skating rink goes up in the winter. She was singing all her classics to an audience that had grown up with her.

If you don’t know her by name like I didn’t, thing classic pop—the kind that adult contemporary muzak hollowly mimics. The highlight was a rendition of Brazil with the help of a handsome young Brazillian percussionist.

A sentimental evening for old people: very nice.
