Merrillee’s hostel gets into the paper of record. Matt Gross writes,

The William Gyles House turned out to be perfectly nice, like your friend’s unpretentious vacation home. We had a private room with two beds; a kitchen stocked with eggs, waffles, orange juice and coffee; maps, guidebooks and pamphlets galore. Our hostel mates were a software engineer from Hartford and an older Scottish man, not quite the boozy backpackers we had feared. Moreover, a backyard barbecue was planned for that evening. Everyone knows that free hamburgers are a time-tested antidote for angst.

More. I’m glad we were able to help his angst; Jean and he were neat people (is that correct grammar? it’s certainly an awkward read.). I enjoyed the conversation, despite flubbing the bit where I tried to show off my mandarin.
