Nausica of the Valley of the Winds · Oct 2, 10:01 PM

Warrior/pacifist Princess Nausica desperately struggles to prevent two dying nations from destroying themselves and their dying planet.

Classic Miyazaki: fantastic, epic, and bizarre. Clearly a precursor to the recently successful Monoke Hime and Spirited Away. It’s a good film, but do not attempt Miyazaki evangelization; Nausica is animated at 12 frames per second and the English dubing is saccharine and nauseating. Otherwise highly recommended: esp. for a post apocalyptic vision that owes nothing to Mad Max.

Directed: Hayao Miyazaki, 1986
Summary: Fantastic SF epic. “Early” Miyazaki.

  1. One word evangelism:

  2. I agree: wholeheartedly-style. Tom    Oct 4, 08:23 PM    #

  3. How can you be hating on Patrick Stewart??

But I agree. Subtitles for Nausicaa definitely, and most other anime except probably Cowboy Bebop.

Also, I’d like to add that while I liked this movie, I tend to dislike the parts when they decide to get all “preachy.” JFu    Oct 4, 11:52 PM    #
