Dancing After Hours · Oct 6, 08:05 PM

The inside cover does this anthology by Andre Dubus cold, fair justice:

In each of the fourteen stories in Dancing After Hours, Dubus uncovers the mystery of ordinary life as his characters—often perseverant, yet occasionally crazed by desire, loss, or disappointment—wrestle with love, faith, and luck.

I was enthralled, generally speaking; it’s also good writing—very good. Having read (and enjoyed) bad writing, the shear eye-popping goodness of good writing is just exactly that. But I am not compelled to read anything else of his: short stories make good movies and they make bad novels.
