After living a life marked by coldness, an aging professor is forced to confront the emptiness of his existence.

Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries in one sentence. He meets a colorful cast of characters along the way. Two you boys argue over God with the I-really-care strength that only young people who still care about things can care about. A middle-aged couple locked in a love-less marriage remind the professor of his own wife who died a long time ago. His sister is with him, and she reminds him of this and other things.

He falls into reveries, and much of the movie happens in flashbacks, dreams, and nightmares. The characters, sets, weather, and props are heavy with metaphoric analogue. The movie is built with a strict symbology.

Directed: Ingmar Bergman, 1957
Summary: Life ends lonely.

  1. I ALMOST got to see his most recent flick, Saraband, at the theater. But, alas, I had to study for a quiz instead.
Supposedly it’s worth seeing. Chris    Oct 14, 06:18 PM    #

  2. The IMDB people are falling over themselves to say how wonderful Saraband is. Tom    Oct 15, 09:41 PM    #
