Gosford Park · Oct 15, 09:23 PM

“Rightly, [Robert] Altman is less concerned with the murder mystery, which is almost an aside, than with the opportunity given by a shooting party at a 1930s stately mansion to observe the English aristocracy and their servants in social interaction.”

Gosford Park gets off to a slow rolling start as a dozen or so guests arrive with their valets. It’s all very British, so even the American guest (a movie producer), pronounces the “t” in valet. After some slogging, I found myself waist-deep in the thick of a very interesting multi-threaded, two-level story. The muder doesn’t happen right away, and is not the point of the movie.

Directed: Robert Altman, 2001
Summary: Study of an English hunting party with servants.
