Polite head nod, glazed eyes · Nov 20, 12:11 AM

No amount of enthusiasm will spice up a discussion of how small interest rate differentials between, say the Australian dollar and the Japanese Yen can be employed as a low-maintenance investment vehicle.

  1. Blasphemy! Anyone who can read every word of the Financial Times adoringly can appreciate arbitrage with enthusiasm!

  2. Low maintenance investment vehicle?

Sounds like a Honda or Toyota to me!

    Australian’s got dollars?

    That’s cool.

    Arbitrage with enthusiasm?

Is that the opposite of thermal bunnies?

Do they run uphill with enthusiasm?

I still don’t get it. Guess I need to consult my old Merriam-Webster and see just what this arbitrage is all about.

  3. “Arbitrage: The simultaneous buying and selling of one security at two different prices in two different markets, which results in profits without risk.” [via]

Totoally Made Up Example: buying light fixtures in one market (Ikea) while simultaneously selling light fixtures in another (ebay). Pocket the difference.
