I didn’t get out of Newport until Saturday morning. Work kept me. Cleaning my apartment kept me. Then, on my way to DC, traffice kept me — the drive was miserable, but I arrived just in time for a BBQ at Josh’s new place. Sunday morning I left for Florida, and got there in good time. On Monday I drove to Orlando to say goodbye to that crowd and do the last-minute shopping. On Tuesday I returned to Jacksonville for a goodbye and happy birthday with the family. On Wednesday my sister drove me to the airport.

In San Jose I unboxed my backpack to find I had left behind the shoulder and waist straps. My SF contact directed me to an REI store downtown, and I went for another bout of last-minute shopping. On Thursday he went to work, and deposited me at the airport along the way.

The flight was very smooth, except for the part where my stomach cramped up and I grew light-headed and nauseous. That was the second half, and the symptoms lasted about 30 hours. It was unpleasant, and probably due to severe dehydration and altitude sickness and the “asian vegetarian” spacial meal. I was sick like that all through immigration and customs.

  1. Aha! your mention of “San Jose” gives away that you’re actually in Costa Rica.
Immigration and customs always gives me nausea too.
