I went again to Sumida Park in Asakusa this morning, and exercised for about half an hour. On the way, I passed the Shop 99 store and picked up a load of raisin bread, three small fried potatoe patties, and two small fried cod fillets—a cheap breakfast.
After practice—this is my routine—I returned to the hostel to shower, upload pictures, and write up the previous day. In the afternoon I took the Yurikamome monorail to Odaiba—an upscale collection of bay-side skyscrapers, wide pedestrian walkways, and futuristic architecture. I paid 500 Yen to get into the large metal globe suspended on the 45th floor of the Fuji TV building. Sunny weather and a great view.
There’s a floor in the Decks mall that is done up like 1950’s Shanghai, complete with street vendors and a train stop. There’s Joyopolis, the virtual amusement center with at least four VR roller coasters. There’s high-end hotels, artificial beaches, a miniature Statue of Liberty from France, and the impossible Tokyo Big Site convention center made from four inverted pyramids standing on glass-walled pillar-buildings. The walkways bogglingly wide and the pedestrian bridges have names like Teleport Bridge and Dream Bridge. This place is fantastic.
In the evening I went to Shinjuku and promptly fell into a bad mood after wanding around pointlessly. I revived myself with cream puffs, and bought a 150 Yen JR ticket with the intention of taking the short ride to Shinjuku. Halfway there I changed my mind, took the Chuo express line across to the East side of the Yamanote line, and hopped back on the Yamanote line to Ueno.
A fellow from Zurich came in just as I got into bed. He nearly convinced me to come with him to Space Lab Yellow for whatever deep electro house would be spinning tonight, but instead, I went to sleep and slept for 8.5 hours. Yesterday I slept for 9.
