Jiujiang Bus Station (May 05) · May 5, 10:49 AM

I’m headed into the thick of it. Lushan is a huge tourist destination, and I’m walking towards an open maw. If I can’t find a cheap room on the mountain, I will drop my pack with left luggage and return to JJ tonight.

This morning I ate porridge, about 10 small steamed dumplings, and a stick of fried bread. 5 and a half RMB.

When you enter the station’s waiting area, you put your luggage through an x-ray machine, but if the monitor is slurping noodles, you could bring in a box of grenades with no problem.

If I can find a room in Lushan, I want to stay 2 days before moving on to Hefei or somewhere. At the Wuyuan station, during a stumbling, crowded conversation, I met a materials engineer working in Hefei. He invited me to visit him if I am in town, and I’d be happy to finish the holiday on a cheap note—though I’m reasonably pleased at how I’ve made out so far.
