Tokyo (August 17) · Oct 8, 04:28 PM

We set about five different alarms and scattered them throughout their one-room flat. We were up at 9:30 for a yogurt and museli breakfast. Gernot gave me pictures of the pair of Kongo Rikishi statues at Kofukuji Temple in Nara. He also gave me a plastic folder that had their fronts on the front and their backs on the back; this was a gift for Rob back in Tokyo.

Gernot say me to the nearest subway and we said goodbye. I slept lightly on the return trip to Tokyo station, and reached the hostel about fifteen minutes before Rob got off work and called. I collected my bags and thanked the Oak Hotel again for accommodating me, then took the JR Yamanote line to Mejiro and walked to Rob’s place. He was playing Final Fantasy XII again. At six we left for class.

Today is Thursday. On this kind of day the class has a Xingyi focus, so after warming up with shiko, tenchi, and several variations on the leg-raise, Ark moved on to Xingyi drills, including “chopping fist”. Class lasts two hard hours, but I’m doing a lot better after three and a half months of sporadic working out (and nearly continual playing around). After class we return to Rob’s place and don’t stay up terribly late; he leaves for work at 5:30 these days.
