They like the China · Feb 8, 11:26 PM

My first presentation was well-received, I’m told. I booked the best conference room in our building, with twin 6 or 7 foot rear projection screens and a good speaker system. A random “best of” slideshow was playing as people came in, accompanied by Gai wo yi ge wen (Shanghai Jazz inspired by Patsy Cline), My 1997 by Ai Jing (third link on the left takes you to samples), and Jolin Tsai’s Shuo ai ni.

I let the show play through, even after everyone was in — they liked it. When I cut if off, I put up a map of china with all the places I’ve been marked off while I talked them through an overview.

After that, the presentation degraded into random story-telling. I covered the southern silk road, the bus into Lhasa, and the time the village men got me drunk in Xijiang. Next time is going to be better, and I’ve already got people ragging on my for not inviting them to the first one, so it’s going to happen soon.
