Merrilee got us into one of the events opening 41 North, the exclusive yacht club replacing Christy’s in downtown Newport. In fact, we were sitting at the chairs in the foreground of their web site. Waiters came by with wine and hors d’oeuvres — shrimp toasts with fancy seeds, lamb with mango blah blah sauce, and other hifalutin finger food. The crowd was old-moneyed and upper-crusty haute-society.

The photographers avoided us something awful, but I blame the sneakers I was wearing, which are worn out from having been to Tibet and back. Great sunset, though.

We ditched that upscale scene for the lively H2O next door. I had a beer (this being my second drink of the night, was enough to get me all tipsy and is why this entry reads so poorly). I also had my first lobster bisque. And a mountain of nachos. Quite fun.
